The Trump Card

I have not talked much about America’s (hopefully) soon to be ex President. The reason is that if I talk about all the things I disliked about the man, this blog would become one long sad political diatribe. I don’t want that for my blog. My heart aches that this man is president. He’s an imbecile and a low down rotten crook who lies with every word out of his mouth. I am still in shock that he won. I still can’t believe America was so ignorant as to elect him. I understand that Hillary was not the ideal candidate, and I always thought Bernie could do better. I’m glad I got to hear Bernie speak in person recently. He’s quite a dynamic speaker. Could he have won? We’ll never know, but anything would be better than what we got. I hate that Pence is next in line because I think the man is a sniveling weasel who will do his best to unravel LGBT gains. The next in line Ryan is no better because he has no spine. Let’s face it, America’s leadership has gone to shit and our only hope is the 2018 midterm elections when we must make sure the  Democrats retake Congress.

I began my life in the South and for five years lived as a closeted teacher, but am now making a new life for myself as an oral historian in New England. I think my life will work out the way it was always meant to be. That doesn't mean there won't be ups and downs; that's all part of life. It means I just have to be patient. I feel like October 7, 2015 is my new birthday. It's a beginning filled with great hope. It's a second chance to live my life…not anyone else's. My profile picture is "David and Me," 2001 painting by artist Steve Walker. It happens to be one of my favorite modern gay art pieces. View all posts by Joe

Joe, can you as a military historian offers your readers any insight into why the country faces such a crisis in leadership at this point in its history?

I don’t know that I can answer it as a military historian but as a historian in general, I think there was a lot of frustration with the status quo and the Washington establishment. Because of that, Americans looked outside of Washington for a leader and sadly chose Trump. Trump has had numerous bankruptcies and has failed as much as he has succeeded. He’s become famous using his name and loopholes in government regulations to become richer. By choosing an outsider, America effectively voted out common sense. There is a reason that we choose politicians to lead and that is because they’ve made mistakes in the past but not at the highest echelons of government. Trump is making his mistakes at the highest point in an American political career and he’s making awful mistakes. We needed a much stronger leader but Clinton wasn’t the answer and the Democrats made a bad choice in choosing her and sticking with her from the beginning. She sadly had too much baggage and that allowed for an outsider to come in and win.
