Moment of Zen: Sleep

I got an email yesterday from the people in Chicago. They want me to interview again on Thursday. Since I was supposed to hear back from them no earlier than Monday or Tuesday, this has to be good news.  They decided before finishing preliminary interviews that they wanted to interview me again. The Thursday interview will be over Skype, so I hope all goes well. I’m very excited but also nervous. This job would mean better pay, great benefits, and a nice apartment.

About Joe

I began my life in the South and for five years lived as a closeted teacher, but am now making a new life for myself as an oral historian in New England. I think my life will work out the way it was always meant to be. That doesn't mean there won't be ups and downs; that's all part of life. It means I just have to be patient. I feel like October 7, 2015 is my new birthday. It's a beginning filled with great hope. It's a second chance to live my life…not anyone else's. My profile picture is "David and Me," 2001 painting by artist Steve Walker. It happens to be one of my favorite modern gay art pieces. View all posts by Joe

Joe, I did a decade’s business travel to Chicago from 1994 to 2004. My whole work life from 1977 to 2011 was spent in Manhattan so I think I may assert that I know what constitutes urban life.

Chicago, I always found, is a great city – in a spectacular setting – with premier cultural institutions and well-developed urban infrastructure that facilitates one’s access to the city’s unique features such as the lake and several parks as well as some of the world’s best museums. The city’s night life is lively and the gay scene is extensive and diverse.

If you can make the adjustment from rural or small-town life to navigating thru a metropolis (I grew up on a farm in quaint northwestern Connecticut), and you’re willing make the effort to do so, I hope that a job in Chicago will be a life-changing opportunity for you.

    Regards & good luck!
    Tim
