Pic of the Day

About Joe

Unknown's avatar
I began my life in the South and for five years lived as a closeted teacher, but am now making a new life for myself as an oral historian in New England. I think my life will work out the way it was always meant to be. That doesn't mean there won't be ups and downs; that's all part of life. It means I just have to be patient. I feel like October 7, 2015 is my new birthday. It's a beginning filled with great hope. It's a second chance to live my life…not anyone else's. My profile picture is "David and Me," 2001 painting by artist Steve Walker. It happens to be one of my favorite modern gay art pieces. View all posts by Joe

    Dear Joe,
I am a fan of W. H. Auden’s The Platonic Blow and while investigating its history, I stumbled on your November 9, 2021 and March 8, 2011 blogposts. There’s certainly nothing platonic about the encounter deliciously described in Auden’s poem so it made me wonder why he called it the “Platonic blow”?
But first let me say how happy I am to discover your blog! I’ve no experience of blogs and didn’t know any like yours existed. (Pardon my internet backwardness but I didn’t grow up with computers). But I have certainly come to appreciate your writing and relish your selections for “Pic of the Day”. I have no idea where you find find these massively handsome photos. Two I especially like are the Pic for July 6, 2023 of the male nude in what looks like an art studio with antique statues. The male statue in the photo suggests Greek sculpture which is exquisite and posing male nudes among them only makes it more wonderful to behold. The other Pic was posted June 4, 2023 of two guys on a beach enjoying a covert, underhanded encounter. These photos are wrapped in memories and stories!
And your writing on poetry with poem, backstory and biography is also exquisite. Also awesome is the dedication you’ve shown posting your blog continuously since 2010. You began appropriately with Walt Whitman and No. 11 from “Calamus”. Finding and reading you “…that night I was happy.”
    Don

PS: Could I have permission to read your “other blog”? And I am so sorry you are suffering such pain.

Thank you for your kind words, Don. I have really enjoyed doing this blog for the past 13 years (I can’t believe that next Thursday will be exactly 13 years.) I am so glad you like my little blog and that you appreciate all that I have put into this blog over the years. As for the “other blog” it is no longer active. I deleted it quite some time ago.
