Moment of Zen: Reading

Since I’ve had Covid, there hasn’t been a lot to do except rest. I can’t go anywhere. One blessing is this week of sickness has been no migraines (until yesterday). I was migraine free for nearly seven days, which is the longest I’ve gone without a migraine in years. I love books, but I often end up listening to audiobooks because migraines can affect my vision and it’s difficult to actually read a book. With no headache for the last week and nowhere to go and nothing to see, I began to read. I’ve basically read a book a day, something that I haven’t done in so long that I can’t even remember when it was. I love books but I also love to read, and so, I’ve been catching up on reading. While all of these guys have physical books, I’ve been using my Kindle, but I have thoroughly enjoyed reading again.

I began my life in the South and for five years lived as a closeted teacher, but am now making a new life for myself as an oral historian in New England. I think my life will work out the way it was always meant to be. That doesn't mean there won't be ups and downs; that's all part of life. It means I just have to be patient. I feel like October 7, 2015 is my new birthday. It's a beginning filled with great hope. It's a second chance to live my life…not anyone else's. My profile picture is "David and Me," 2001 painting by artist Steve Walker. It happens to be one of my favorite modern gay art pieces. View all posts by Joe

Reading is a balm for the soul and the quiet that is required to read helps the body to rest. I read for a few hours each night before going to sleep. Although I like physical books, my Nook is more convenient. I hope you recover from Covid soon.

Michael, I think I’m mostly recovered. I certainly feel much better. As for reading before bed, I used to do that all the time, though sometimes I stayed up way too late reading because of it, but that’s been made difficult in the last several years due to my migraines. I hope I can return to that peacefulness that comes from reading a good book.

Quiet time before bed is an absolute for me. After a day of dealing with people it’s nice to just have time for me. And God.

Whatever it takes Joe I hope you can have some quiet time for yourself as well. And Isabella too.

Absolutely gorgeous photos. Keep at it. I’m glad you’re feeling better.
