I don’t have a lot to say today, but I know some of you might want to know how my appointment with the Audiologist went. He said I am having some hearing loss, especially hearing consonants. He told me hearing aids would help with both the hearing loss and the tinnitus. He wants me to see and ENT (otolaryngologist) to get a medical diagnosis because otherwise my health insurance won’t cover the hearing aids. I doubt my insurance will cover much of the cost anyway, and it will probably be an aggravating process.
I began my life in the South and for five years lived as a closeted teacher, but am now making a new life for myself as an oral historian in New England. I think my life will work out the way it was always meant to be. That doesn't mean there won't be ups and downs; that's all part of life. It means I just have to be patient. I feel like October 7, 2015 is my new birthday. It's a beginning filled with great hope. It's a second chance to live my life…not anyone else's.
My profile picture is "David and Me," 2001 painting by artist Steve Walker. It happens to be one of my favorite modern gay art pieces.

The process shouldn’t be too bad. The ENT has to check to see if there is some physical reason, like an obstruction or blockage, that is causing the hearing loss. Most likely the cause is gradual nerve loss. Stay in there. The benefits of being properly fitted with hearing devices is worth the aggravation.

Excellent advice. I wish I had gotten a pair several years ago. I’m very glad I finally do have a pair. They are expensive, however.
