About Joe

Unknown's avatar
I began my life in the South and for five years lived as a closeted teacher, but am now making a new life for myself as an oral historian in New England. I think my life will work out the way it was always meant to be. That doesn't mean there won't be ups and downs; that's all part of life. It means I just have to be patient. I feel like October 7, 2015 is my new birthday. It's a beginning filled with great hope. It's a second chance to live my life…not anyone else's. My profile picture is "David and Me," 2001 painting by artist Steve Walker. It happens to be one of my favorite modern gay art pieces. View all posts by Joe

I truly hope you are feeling better Joe!

I got hit by some bad news today from my doctor…a pancreatic condition they found in December has gotten worse so I’m scheduled for several more diagnostic procedures. Unfortunately the “C” word was mentioned today…it’s been a rough year.

I’m so sorry that it’s been a rough year and that you received bad news. You are in my prayers, and I’m sure the prayers of other readers, that this will not be the “C” word. You’re in my thoughts, and I’ll send you all the positive energy that I can.

And yes, that delicious bubble was a delight to see—I opened the email after I left the doctor’s office. There is also a great short story in the New Yorker this week…Last Coffeehouse on Travis. It’s certainly not another epic like “Brokeback Mountain” but it’s a pleasant gay themed story!
