Nine Years

Nine years ago today, I started a new life when I moved to Vermont. I had been a teacher my entire professional career, and I was switching gears to enter the museum field. I’ve never regretted taking a job in Vermont or my career transition to museums. My position has changed at my museum, and I had no idea nine years ago that my career would evolve to be my perfect job. Sometimes people look back on major life decisions and do something differently, but I have no regrets, and I wouldn’t change a thing. Since moving to Vermont, I have become more confident in my sexuality. My job has also allowed me to be more comfortable in my own skin. Nine years ago, my life changed for the better!

I began my life in the South and for five years lived as a closeted teacher, but am now making a new life for myself as an oral historian in New England. I think my life will work out the way it was always meant to be. That doesn't mean there won't be ups and downs; that's all part of life. It means I just have to be patient.     So grateful for all the ways you have grown over the last 9 years. I think I’ve been following your blog for over 10 or 11 years now. You’ve been an amazing person to get to know. Your career path and life experiences have helped me learn more and feel more fully confident in my conversations as well, so THANK YOU! And CONGRATULATIONS!

    Congratulations Joe! It’s a wonderful thing to be able to reflect and know that an earlier decision has born such good fruit. I could describe a similar journal in my move from Texas to Indiana. Peace!
