Migraine

I did not sleep well last night, and I woke with a migraine today. I wish I did not have meetings today because I would call in sick. Sorry for the short post today.

Taking It Easy

I’m taking a vacation day, ostensibly to recover from my colonoscopy, but I’m feeling fine. I slept much of the day after I got home yesterday. If you’re wondering, the colonoscopy went great. Nothing was found, and I don’t have to have another one for ten years.

I do have a few things to do today besides taking it easy. I plan to do some laundry this morning, and go to the grocery store this afternoon. I also have an appointment at a local art gallery about possibly teaching a class for them. A little extra money never hurt anyone, and it’s a subject I look forward to teaching.

One last thing, since I haven’t posted an Isabella pic this week (and I think I forgot to last week), here you go:

Ugh!

I’m at the age when I have to have a colonoscopy, and it’s scheduled for this morning. I’m dreading having this procedure, but hopefully, it won’t be too bad.

On a more cheerful note, the guy above is the actor/model/nurse Nate Crnkovich. He was the winner of Mister Supernational, and works as a traveling nurse. Sorry guys, he appears to be straight. With all that said, he also played a model in the show Minx in which he was as a living version of Michelangelo’s David. You can see a clip of this here.

New Neurologist

I had an appointment with my new neurologist yesterday. He’s from Mexico and has a heavy accent that was a tad bit difficult to understand at times. He speaks very quickly, and I swear he occasionally slipped into Spanish. However, he was very nice, patient-oriented, and kind of humorous. He was impressed that I was so knowledgeable about my migraines.

When I discussed with him the different techniques of the ladies who’ve been doing my Botox, he told me that he’s found that some medical professionals don’t get the injections in the correct places. He said that when he comes across a patient who isn’t seeing significant results from Botox, he will ask where they get their injections, and he often ends up doing the Botox himself. He said that if I was getting better results from one than the other, stick to the good one, and I told him that’s what I did when I scheduled future appointments.

On top of everything else, he’s very good looking. Nice, handsome, sexy accent, caring…what more could you ask for? 😂 I’m fortunate with both of my male doctors fit that category. Well my primary physician just has a nice voice and doesn’t really have an accent, but you get the point. They both make my visits to them a pleasant experience. I’ve seen a lot of doctors in my lifetime, and few of them have had those characteristics.

Migraine Monday

I woke up with a bad migraine, so this is going to be a short post, since I’m going back to bed.

Working Friday

I wish I could just stay in bed today. I woke up around 2:30 am with a migraine. Luckily, I was able to go back to sleep, but when I woke again at 4:30 am, I still had a headache. I took some medicine, and I hope it’s better by the time I leave for work. While I usually work from home on Fridays, I’ll be working at the museum today. I have some meetings that will be best in person, though they could have been done virtually. The real reason I’m going in is because I have to go to my doctor’s office this afternoon, and his office is across the street from the university. If I’m going to have to drive in anyway, I might as well make it a day at the office. Regardless, I hope that this headache goes away because I’m supposed to go to dinner with a friend this evening, and I always look forward to spending time with her.

Post-Botox

Good morning, everyone! I’ve been doing some gentle stretching this morning because I’ve had some stiffness and pain in my lower back, but otherwise, it seems like a good morning so far.

I had my Botox treatment yesterday for my migraines, and I asked the nurse practitioner about her injection technique and whether it is it more effective. She said that she uses that technique for two reasons: 1) it helps her be more accurate in the placement of the injections, and 2) it’s more comfortable for her patients. I mentioned how whatever she did appeared to be more effective. I could tell that she did not want to say anything that might come across as critical of her colleague, so instead, she said, “Maybe this just works better for you.”

Whether it does or not, I booked her for my next two appointments. When she walked me up to the desk to make future appointments, I asked her if it was ok to book only her in the future, and she said I could. What was interesting is that the woman scheduling the appointments said that she only lets this nurse practitioner do her Botox injections. So it seems I’m not the only one who thinks she’s more effective with her technique. We’ll see over the next three months if it proves to be more effective.

Botox Day

I went yesterday to see my primary doctor, and all went pretty well. The only exception is that his nurse needed to draw some blood for a few tests, and although she stuck the needle in me twice, she got a single drop of blood. Today, I’m getting even more shots because I’m going for my next Botox treatment for my migraines. I have had two different people give me these shots since my former neurologist left. One is a physician assistant (PA) and the other is a nurse practitioner (NP). No offense to any PAs out there, but if I have a choice, I will always go with an NP. The PA uses an older method of administering the Botox injections, and they appear less effective. They injections are supposed to last about 90 days, but when she does the injections, they seem to have little effect. When the NP has given me the injections in the past, she uses a newer and supposedly more effective technique. I’ve only had her do my Botox once, but I saw great improvement, and I am hoping that will be the case today. The PA gives the injection perpendicular to my head going straight in and remaining fairly shallow, not going in very deep. The NP gently pinches the skin and goes in at a 90 degree angle and a bit deeper. I talked to my doctor yesterday, and he suggested that it might be a better technique because it allows the Botox to distribute more evenly and get more effectively in the areas it should. I plan to ask the NP today if this might be the case. If so, and it does prove more effective, then I will be insisting she gives my injections from the on. I’m hoping I will see more relief after today’s treatment.

Busy Week

When I said Monday that I had a busy start to the week, I had not expected that not only would Monday not go as planned, but also that I would have meeting after meeting scheduled all throughout the week and more that I need to schedule.

When I arrived at the museum on Monday, I found that our environmental systems had gone haywire over the weekend, and it was over 90 degrees in the museum. It became quickly apparent that my class could not be held in the museum, so I had to find an alternate location and get the new classroom set up and ready to go. Once that was done, the day mostly went much smoother.

I have three meetings today, and more scheduled on Thursday and Friday. I’m on the hiring committee for two different positions in another department, and we are in the process of not only sifting through the applications and deciding who to interview. We are also scheduling first round interviews. We are trying to move quickly because we have found with other positions, we are losing the best candidates to other jobs. It’s been a difficult process.

With all that said, I really did not want to get out of bed this morning. I initially woke around 3:30 this morning and could not fully go back to sleep because I woke with a migraine; however, I have too much to do at work today to call in sick. I took my headache medicine first thing, and I am feeling better, so hopefully, I can make it through the day without too much of a problem.

Halfway

I’m taking a vacation day Friday, so my work week is halfway done. I was home sick yesterday due to a migraine (we have a weather front moving through). I still have a bit of one today, but it’s not as bad as yesterday. So, I’m going to work today. As long as my office isn’t too hot and there are a minimum of strong smells, I should be ok. I have some work to do, although nothing that I would consider of great importance. I really wish I could stay home another day, but I think it will be good to get out of my apartment. I hope everyone is having a good week.
