Texas Thursday

We’ve got a lot planned for today. We are going to the Museum of the Southwest. While I’d read a lot of great things about the museum, I’ve heard quite the opposite from “actual” people I know. I’m reserving judgment. We are planning to have BBQ a for lunch and Mexican for dinner. Then for tomorrow night, we will be going to The Recovey Room, a gay bar in Odessa. It should be a fun night.

I began my life in the South and for five years lived as a closeted teacher, but am now making a new life for myself as an oral historian in New England. I think my life will work out the way it was always meant to be. That doesn't mean there won't be ups and downs; that's all part of life. It means I just have to be patient. I feel like October 7, 2015 is my new birthday. It's a beginning filled with great hope. It's a second chance to live my life…not anyone else's. My profile picture is "David and Me," 2001 painting by artist Steve Walker. It happens to be one of my favorite modern gay art pieces. View all posts by Joe

If you’ve never been, the WASP Museum in Sweetwater is outstanding in its sharing of the first training group for women pilots. Also, much further from Odessa, is the Funeral Museum in Houston. While not the liveliest places, pun intended, it does have great information about the history and transformation of funerals, some about presidents, celebs and other significant funerals. Hope you’re having fun in TX! Remember, save a horse, ride a cowboy! 😏👍🏻
