A Lot Going On

Today will be a long day, but once it is over it’s time to relax. Today, we put the final touches on the exhibit, then we will have the grand opening and reception. It should be quite the opening, unlike any we’ve had before. This exhibit is for our bicentennial, after all. It’s a huge exhibit and unlike anything we’ve ever done before. The whole exhibit harkens back to the older days of museums when they were largely cabinets of curiosity. We have a lot of curiosities on display, and they are fascinating objects.
Tomorrow will be a day of fun. I have nothing planned during the day, but tomorrow night is the annual Winter Is a Drag Ball. It’s one of the largest social events in Vermont. It is certainly the largest LGBTQ social event. However, it is more than just LGBTQ, it is also our allies. About 1000 people show up and many come in costume or drag. This years theme, and each year there is a theme, is Broadway Bound, a cross between Broadway and BDSM. My costume is all black with leather and sequins and my shoes are fabulous. I hope it will be a good time had by all.

Sorry

I’m a bit embarrassed by my rant yesterday. The stress of the week was getting to me. This exhibit has been a monster. It’s the most objects we’ve ever exhibited, and it’s the biggest exhibit we’ve ever had. And yes, I’m tired of feeling sick but I’m much better than I was a month ago. The physical therapy and exercises she gave me have also helped. I’m also embarrassed at how tired I’ve felt the last few weeks. Yesterday, I fell asleep at my desk for at least 30 minutes. I know because an email I had not seen before I dozed had been sitting there for 33 minutes. My boss either never noticed or was too kind to say anything. I was totally embarrassed nonetheless. Yes, it’s been a rough week.
Oh, and Happy Valentines Day! I hope it’s a lovely one for you.

Ugh!

The title says it all.

Ugh to everything. The snow, the tiredness of getting this exhibit ready, the continuing effects of recovery from bronchitis and pneumonia, how sleepy I was when trying to write this post, etc. I had a post in mind and I just couldn’t stay awake to write it. Maybe next Wednesday.

On Joy and Sorrow

On Joy and Sorrow
by Kahlil Gibran

Then a woman said, Speak to us of Joy and Sorrow.
And he answered:
Your joy is your sorrow unmasked.
And the selfsame well from which your laughter rises was oftentimes filled with your tears.
And how else can it be?
The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain.
Is not the cup that holds your wine the very cup that was burned in the potter’s oven?
And is not the lute that soothes your spirit, the very wood that was hollowed with knives?
When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy.
When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight.

Some of you say, “Joy is greater than sorrow,” and others say, “Nay, sorrow is the greater.”
But I say unto you, they are inseparable.
Together they come, and when one sits alone with you at your board, remember that the other is asleep upon your bed.

Verily you are suspended like scales between your sorrow and your joy.
Only when you are empty are you at standstill and balanced.
When the treasure-keeper lifts you to weigh his gold and his silver, needs must your joy or your sorrow rise or fall.

Grammys

I wasn’t going to watch any of it. Then one of my coworkers told me that Ricky Martin was going to be in the opening, I decided I’d at least watch that. But, Ricky came out with a mustache. He looked horrible. I hate the mustache craze. I hate even more the full beard, but mustaches just look stupid. I thought I’d stop it there, but I decided to watch Alicia Keyes and was rewarded by seeing Michelle Obama. After that, I was happy to see Shawn Mendes, who while I like some of his music but more than that, I just like to look at him. He has an amazing smile that makes your heart skip a beat. Shortly after Shawn, I fell asleep. I woke up to the medley of Dolly Parton songs that I thought was fabulous. I really enjoyed her new song about the red shoes. I watched a bit longer but eventually turned it off and fell asleep. I do want to say one more thing, Alicia Keyes is AMAZING. Watching her play two pianos at once was amazing. I’ve seen dueling pianos before, but never when it was one person playing them.
