About Joe

Unknown's avatar
I began my life in the South and for five years lived as a closeted teacher, but am now making a new life for myself as an oral historian in New England. I think my life will work out the way it was always meant to be. That doesn't mean there won't be ups and downs; that's all part of life. It means I just have to be patient. I feel like October 7, 2015 is my new birthday. It's a beginning filled with great hope. It's a second chance to live my life…not anyone else's. My profile picture is "David and Me," 2001 painting by artist Steve Walker. It happens to be one of my favorite modern gay art pieces. View all posts by Joe

Joe, your man today is lovely. I’m fond of hairy legs – like a satyr, and you know what they got upto!

And I do like the old dial-up phone. I have my parents’ one from the 1960s. It would still work if adapted to work with a digital signal, and is far more robust than the rubbishy modern ones from the Far East.

My father worked for a telephone company and we always had good phones. He kept a rotary dial phone for many years after most people quit using them. You basically can’t use them today if you were to call somewhere and the computer on the other end asks you to “press 1 for English” etc.

I can’t speak for US systems but here and in most of Europe the old dial up phones used what is called DC pulse dialing at quite high voltage. The modern ones send a different audio tone for each number on the keyboard and thus the old ones are useless now unless you get one adapted to the current tech standard – and they are expensive. More a fashion accessory to impress your friends!
