Long Day

I’ll be going in late to work this morning, not because I have something else to do before work but because I’ll be at the museum tonight for an event. I would go in at noon, because I’ll be there until at least 9 pm tonight, except I have a class this morning at 10 am. The class was scheduled before I knew I’d be working so late. With that being said, I’m actually not complaining. I volunteered for this evening knowing I had the morning class. Tonight’s event is to honor a man whose funeral I was supposed to attend last Friday, but because of having Covid, I was not able to attend, so I volunteered for the event tonight. I feel that this will be my way of showing respect to the family, who did ask about me at the funeral and were worried that I had Covid. Sometimes, we have to do what we have to do, and that means today will be a 12 hour day.

Back to the Grind

I am dreading today. I am returning to work in person for the first time in three weeks. I love my job, but I’ve gotten used to taking naps when I want to, and I have a feeling I’m going to miss that today. I only got about five hours of sleep last night. I wasn’t able to fall asleep until after midnight, and I had to get up at 5:30 am to feed Isabella, make my own breakfast, and get ready for work. Even though I’m drinking a strong cup of tea as I type this, I’m still not fully awake. I hope taking a shower will help wake me up because it’s going to be a long day of meetings and catching up. In other words, it’s going to be a very busy day.

TGIF

Today is another work from home day. I’m really glad I’m not expected to work in person until Monday. It should be a fairly easy day unless something changes. I’ll answer some emails, send a few, and then monitor any emails that come in. I have a little bit of research to do, but that shouldn’t be too bad. Monday will be a busy day. I have a few meetings and I have to prepare for a class I’ll be teaching on Thursday, but that is really just adapting a class I’ve taught numerous times before.

I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Back to Work

Taking It Easy

As my vacation continues, I plan to do nothing today. I don’t plan to go anywhere or do anything. I’ll probably turn on the tv as background noise, but there really isn’t anything I’m dying to watch. I may get a burst of energy at some point, but it doesn’t feel likely at this point. I had a hard time waking up this morning, even though I went to bed early last night. Isabella even gave up trying to wake me up. I finally did get up, fed her, and made my breakfast. I just want to take it easy today.

We’ll See…🤞

Amazingly, Isabella seems to have turned a new leaf since the new year and has not been so persistent in waking me up early. Partly, I think it’s because I came in so late after being out for New Year’s Eve that it threw off her schedule. Yesterday, she also let me sleep in and let me wake up on my own a little after 5 am. This morning, she not only did not wake me (a bad dream did that), but she let me sit in the side of the bed for a bit before she began nudging me to get up and feed her. I hope I haven’t jinxed myself, and this will continue. We’ll see how it goes.

This morning, I’m headed over to New Hampshire for my next Botox treatment for my migraines. I still miss my old neurologist and am a bit apprehensive about seeing a new person, but that won’t be until March. Today, I’ll be seeing a new person who’ll administer my Botox injections. The one who did it before was a lot slower than my previous neurologist had been, and thus, it was more painful. We’ll see how it goes today.

Lastly, I’ve decided to take this whole week as vacation time (though today will count as a sick day). Everyone else took time off before the holiday, but I had to stay at the museum because someone had to do it. Therefore, I decided to extend my holiday a few more days. I don’t have any particular plans, though I was hoping to see a friend that I’ve been trying to make the time to see, but so far, our schedules just haven’t matched up. We’ll see how if that will happen.

Happy New Year!

Ringing in the new year with friends at New Queers Eve was a lot of fun, but I got home and in bed just after 1:30 am. Having now fed Isabella, I’m going back to bed.

Happy New Year!

Year’s End

One of the things I enjoy about living in Vermont and 1200 miles away from my family is that I can actually go out with friends and celebrate the ringing in of the new year. When in Vermont, a friend and I often go to New Queers Eve in Burlington. NQE is a mixture of drag and burlesque with a champagne toast at midnight. It’s a fun time, even if I’m not a big fan of burlesque. I don’t think I’d mind if more men were part of burlesque, but women in burlesque just isn’t my thing for obvious reasons. However, in Vermont drag and burlesque are often part of the same events, but I digress. It will be a fun night, nonetheless, and maybe there will be a guy who gives me a midnight kiss.

I just have to figure out what to wear. I’d considered wearing a nice shirt, maybe one in a silver/gray (something with a little shine/glimmer), and a nice pair of black pants. While that may still be what I wear, if I can decide on the right shirt, it’s supposed to be a cold night, so I’m also considering a black and gray sweater. My only concern is that the venue for NQE is likely to be very crowded and most likely overheated. Vermonters may not believe in air conditioners, they sure as hell believe in heat, which is understandable but can also be overwhelming. (The South is the opposite: often not enough heat when needed in winter and excessive air-conditioning in the summer). Again, I digress. Decisions, decisions.,,

It’s Nice

It’s nice having some time off with nothing that I have to do unless I want to do something. I can lounge at home with Isabella and read a book or watch television. I’ve been content to do as little as possible. The only place I’ve gone all week was a quick trip to the grocery store. I’m not sure I’ll leave my apartment or do anything today. I just want to be lazy, and it’s nice when we get the opportunity to be lazy when we really need it. I know I needed some time to recharge in preparation for the new year.

Recovery

Having friends over for Christmas and cooking for everyone was really great, but I was exhausted by the time everyone left. I’m still tired this morning and plan to do absolutely nothing today except rest and recover. I hope y’all too had a wonderful Christmas.

P.S. My usual Tuesday poem post will be posted tomorrow.
