For the past two days, I’ve been suffering from a major migraine, so I’m going to have to make this a brief post. However, I wanted to address something from Monday’s post about my date Saturday night. I read everyone’s advice about not making a judgment based on a first date. Though we don’t seem to have much in common, I am open to the possibility of a second date. With that said, I will say there were a few red flags, maybe they were caused by nervousness or just minor quirks. There were several things I did not say in Monday’s post because I think they are too personal to discuss on my blog, but suffice to say, I will tread carefully. I’m continuing to converse with him over text, though I did not text much yesterday because I stayed in bed in a dark quiet room most of the day.

Saturday night, I had a date. I’d been chatting with this guy that I met on one of the dating apps, and we’d been chatting for about a week or two. He finally asked me out for dinner Saturday night. I agreed and we went to dinner at one of my favorite Italian restaurants. Normally, I order the Linguine Al Pescatore (scallops, mussels, and shrimp in a white wine tomato sauce), but it’s rarely a good idea to order something with linguine, spaghetti, or any other long noodle when you’re trying to look graceful while eating. So, I opted for a new item on the menu that I’d never tried before, Salmone Cucina (wood roasted salmon with artichokes, red peppers, lemon, and capers in a white wine sauce served with risotto). I love risotto and it can be eaten quite gracefully. I mention the food because it was the highlight of the date. Nothing else is really worth discussing. It turned out that we have little in common, and we just didn’t seem to go together very well at all. In fact, I was glad when it’s over. I don’t think he felt the same way, since he texted most of yesterday. I’m going to have to tell him though that I don’t really want to see him again. I just don’t think we are compatible. While sometimes opposites attract, this is one where there seemed to be no common ground except we both like cats and dislike dogs, and we are single gay men. That is not enough to build a relationship on; I’m not even sure it’s would be worth pursuing a friendship.

Why can’t I just find a nice, normal gay (or bi, I have no problem with a guy being bi) who I get along with and conversations flow easily? Snow White sang “Someday My Prince Will Come,” but while her prince did come, it was a fairy tale. My life has never been a fairy tale.

Not much happened yesterday. It was mostly a boring day. I had little to do at work, and I ended up going home early. I was nauseated yesterday for some reason, which was my excuse for going home early, but I was also bored out of my mind. When I got home, I watched the new episode of Obi Wan Kenobi on Disney+ and the LGBTQ+ comedy special Stand Out on Netflix. The comedy special was very hit or miss. There were 27 LGBTQ+ comedians, mostly lesbians and not many of them were that funny. The standouts were Margaret Cho, Matteo Lane, Tig Notaro, and Marsha Warfield. Some of the comics, I just found to be in poor taste or just not that funny. Eddie Izzard gave a crappy first half to his set, but the second half and the final punchline were funny.

The only other thing I did was have a long texting conversation with a good friend, and I texted back and forth with this guy who could be a possible future date. We’ll see if the date actually ever happens. Guys up here seem to want two things: a quick sexual encounter (which I can be in the mood for occasionally, but it rarely is any more than that) or they talk and talk and talk, but nothing ever happens and then one day they just quit responding interacting. This guy so far is just talking. He hasn’t even mentioned sex. Who knows what, if anything, will come of it. Then I talked on the phone to my friend Susan. 

That was pretty much my day. I basically got two paragraphs out about nothing much happening.

I really don’t have anything to write about today. My life is kind of boring at the moment, so enjoy the picture of this photographer and the nice pictures below.

For the most part, it was a good weekend. I still had a migraine on Saturday, but it wasn’t a bad one. I mostly just rested on Saturday and watched some TV. After a lazy Saturday, my Sunday morning was much more productive.

Isabella let me sleep until 5:30, and once I woke up, I fed her before taking a shower and getting dressed. I had breakfast at the local college, who has opened up their cafeteria to the public during the summer to serve breakfast. It was a wonderful breakfast of French toast, scrambled eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, tea, and OJ. It was absolutely delicious.

After that, I went to the grocery store and had to get gas afterwards. I think like everybody, the price of gas is killing me. When I got home, I put up my groceries, put on a load of laundry (I ended up doing two loads), loaded the dishwasher, cleaned the kitchen counters, took out the trash, and made lunch. That was enough for one day. 😂 

It’s a good thing that I had no other plans. About mid afternoon, I developed a bad migraine that stuck with me for the rest of the day.

Finally, the new blinds for my apartment have come in. It’s been six weeks since I ordered them (I had been told 6-8 weeks), but they were delivered to the installers and are being installed this afternoon. I’m pretty excited. I’ve felt like I’ve been on display to all my neighbors without any window treatments. I put up some temporary coverings on the windows, but I’ve left some without anything so Isabella can see outside. I think what I’m most excited for is that I will no longer worry about anyone seeing me if I walk around my apartment naked or lounge on my couch in just my underwear. It’s really all about a little freedom in my apartment. The best part , though, is that these blinds are room-darkening blinds which I was told will block out most of the sunlight when I need darkness. This was an important feature because when I have migraines, I usually get very photosensitive and can’t stand much light around me. 

I’m really looking forward to having these blinds installed. I took today off so that I can move the furniture out of the way to make it easier for them to install. Besides, there isn’t much going on at the museum, so I can easily take the time off. Most museums are busiest during the summer months, but because we are a university museum and there are no students on campus in the summer, no one really comes in. However, we are one of the few air conditioned buildings on campus, so once the temperatures get too hot, some people will bring their laptops and work in the museum instead of in their hot, stuffy offices.

After several delays, a stop at a Cracker Barrel for a late lunch, and heavy traffic in Boston, we checked into our hotel. Apparently, they gave me a free upgrade to a suite. I’ve seen apartments smaller than this room. I have a living room, kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom. When I say kitchen, I mean a full kitchen—full-sized refrigerator, stovetop, microwave, and dishwasher. They only thing it’s missing is a regular stove. It’s kind of in a loud area. I could hear music playing from a nearby party or something well after 10 pm. There is a piano bar downstairs, but this was not piano music. Anyway, the last time I stayed in Boston in the Seaport District, it was a noisy area. I didn’t mind, because by the time it was 10 pm, I was ready to crash for the night.

I also got to meet BosGuy while I was here. He was so kind to see me out for drinks while I was here. We went to a gay bar called Club Cafe. I had one of their “Sweet + Fruity” drinks called a Dirty Girl (Grey Goose Vodka, X-Rated Liqueur, and cranberry juice. It was a bit strong but also very good. I was going to check out one of the restaurants in the area or hang around the bar some after BosGuy left, but I realized I was tired from the day of driving and not really very hungry. I decided to just take an Uber back to my hotel, where I wrote this post and went to bed.

I’m looking forward to seeing more of Boston over the next few days and, hopefully, enjoying the conference.

When I went to bed last night, I had thought I’d scheduled a post for this morning, but my friend Susan emailed me to say that there was no post. That’s when I realized, I thought about writing a post, but I never did. I got distracted shortly thereafter and completely forgot. I have today off for work, so I’m taking the day off completely to rest and relax.

Last night, I wasn’t really in the mood to write anything nor did I have anything to say. My next Botox treatment is Friday, and it feels like the previous treatment wore off two weeks ago. It’s been a rough few weeks, headache wise, that is. So, I just wasn’t feeling like writing anything more than this for today.
