About Joe

I began my life in the South and for five years lived as a closeted teacher, but am now making a new life for myself as an oral historian in New England. I think my life will work out the way it was always meant to be. That doesn't mean there won't be ups and downs; that's all part of life. It means I just have to be patient. I feel like October 7, 2015 is my new birthday. It's a beginning filled with great hope. It's a second chance to live my life…not anyone else's. My profile picture is "David and Me," 2001 painting by artist Steve Walker. It happens to be one of my favorite modern gay art pieces. View all posts by Joe

Now that’s what I call a stunning beach sunset! Mmmmmmmmm! 🤩🔥🙌🏼

I think the photo was taken on the beach at Fire Island Pines on Fire Island, NY.

I spent almost 25 summers in Cherry Grove, the next town on Fire Island about a mile-plus to the west of where the picture was shot. Cherry Grove predates the tonier Pines by about half a century and bills itself as the first predominantly LGBTQ settlement in the U.S.

I sold the house, which I shared with my late spouse, in 2018 after his death. Golly, it would be hard to express how much I miss him, as well as ocean swimming on one of the most magnificent beaches anywhere in the world.
