Rough Day

I came home from work yesterday at 11 am because I had a major migraine. I had wondered if my migraines would still be triggered by weather when we were getting snow instead of rain. Apparently, they will be. We got more snow last night.

It was also a rough day because I was feeling depressed. It’s probably because of a number of factors, but mostly, this new migraine medication doesn’t seem to be helping much at all. It’s so disheartening because I feel like I’ll never find anything that will work. I haven’t found anything that will conquer them in nearly 45 years, but I hold out hope that the headache clinic won’t give up on trying to find a solution.

I began my life in the South and for five years lived as a closeted teacher, but am now making a new life for myself as an oral historian in New England. I think my life will work out the way it was always meant to be. That doesn't mean there won't be ups and downs; that's all part of life. It means I just have to be patient. I feel like October 7, 2015 is my new birthday. It's a beginning filled with great hope. It's a second chance to live my life…not anyone else's. My profile picture is "David and Me," 2001 painting by artist Steve Walker. It happens to be one of my favorite modern gay art pieces. View all posts by Joe

Joe, we all share your hope that a medication will be found to relieve you of these wretched migraines, or at least cut back on their severity. I hope you have a quiet weekend ahead to rest.

Joe, some people use Botox injections for migraines. I used to use fiorinol C 1/4 but ever since I had my deviated septum fixed I haven’t had a one. Being around smokers used to cause mine. It’ll take me forever to catch up to your blog, backwards.

Jim, I used to do the Botox injections. They worked for a little while, but then stopped working. I’m on a daily pill called Qulipta now, and though it took about a month to start working, it seems to be helping now.

Love you blog. Found it late. Storm coming. Glad Qulipta is working as migraines can be very debilitating. Stay +++++. We’ve all been there.
