This morning I’m making a slight change to my usual routine. Instead of sitting down to write a full blog post, I’m going to watch the season finale of Starfleet Academy before I get ready for work.
I’ve been enjoying the series, and since today is the finale, it seems like the perfect excuse to take a few minutes with my coffee and see how they wrap things up. Besides, sometimes even a blogger needs a morning off from writing.
I began my life in the South and for five years lived as a closeted teacher, but am now making a new life for myself as an oral historian in New England. I think my life will work out the way it was always meant to be. That doesn't mean there won't be ups and downs; that's all part of life. It means I just have to be patient. I feel like October 7, 2015 is my new birthday. It's a beginning filled with great hope. It's a second chance to live my life…not anyone else's.
My profile picture is "David and Me," 2001 painting by artist Steve Walker. It happens to be one of my favorite modern gay art pieces.

Joe you deserve a break from blog writing. I hope the programme was good. That scifi has no traction for me.
I was listening to an excellent discussion on BBC Radio 4 this morning called “In Our Time” in which three academics and Mischa Glenny discuss an interesting topic. Today it was a most unusual form of anaerobic bacteria that is essential to our existence.
