My Headaches

If you’ve followed this blog for any amount of time, you probably know I suffer from headaches. I got some relief a few years ago when I got rid of my chronic cluster headaches, but since then, my migraines have come back. It’s been particularly bad the last three weeks or so. There have been times  of some relief, though brief, only an hour or two and bouts of intensive pain that would bring me to tears. I have an appointment with a headaches clinic on November 4, but this last bout of headaches has had me at my wits end. I’d had enough, so I called my doctor. After initially being told I couldn’t see him until next week, I called back and begged yesterday to see him. They finally admitted that he had an appointment at 1.
I was glad I’d finally get to see him and I didn’t have to wait another week.  We discussed the symptoms and he and I decided it was most likely an atypical migraine plus the possibility of a small viral infection. Since my medicines have only been giving me temporary relief, he gave me a shot of Toradol. If you’ve ever had to have one, the relief is almost immediate. He also gave me some anti-nausea medicine too for the almost constant nausea I’ve had with the pain.
I left his office and went to my physical therapy appointment. My physical therapist has worked on my neck pain and shoulder pain. She works wonders. I was basically pain free when I left her office. However, like everything else I’ve tried in the past few weeks, the relief was temporary. By the time I returned home, my headache was back. So I took my doctor’s advice, I took a Maxalt and the anti-nausea medicine and went to bed. I hope today will be a better day.

Sleep Study

Yesterday, I drove down to the hospital in New Hampshire to pick up my sleep study kit. An hour down there and an hour back is a bit ridiculous for a fifteen minute appointment, but I got the kit. I had to wear it last night. Essentially, it’s a belt that goes around your chest, a breathing tube for your nose that doesn’t supply oxygen but monitors breathing, and a fingertip blood pressure cuff. The whole thing was terribly uncomfortable, and I slept in fits all night long. I was so excited when my alarm went off at 6:15 so I could take off this apparatus. Now I have to put it in the box they gave me, slap on their FedEx label, and mail it back. I’ll find out the results in 5-6 weeks.

Pain and Exhaustion

I worked ten hour days for four days last week out of a six day work week. Let me also add that one of those ten hour days actually was a fourteen hour day. Again this week I have a six day work week with two of those days being ten hour days. I am exhausted already, and I felt it full force yesterday when I woke at 3 am with a major migraine. I took some Advil and a Maxalt and eventually fell back to sleep. When I woke again at 8 am, my headache was still raging. I stayed up for an hour or so, drank some coffee, had a bite to eat, and took my medicine before returning to bed. By noon the headache had abated and I ran some errands. However, the headache returned last night, so I went to bed early. I’m just hoping that this week, while long, will be less stressful than last week.

Migraine

Since Sunday, I have had an excruciating migraine. I got some relief on Monday when I went to see my physical therapist. She knows just what pressure points to press to relieve my headaches, but after a few hours it was back with a vengeance. I left work early yesterday because I was in so much pain that I was nauseated. I went home and took the strongest meds I have and went to sleep. Still no relief. Homecoming starts today, and we will be very busy the next four days. I need to be well so that I can do my part.

Doc

My doctor may not be this hot, but he’s pretty damn good looking. I saw him on Monday for a check-up. He changed up some of my medicines, and he’s sending me to a sleep study and a headache clinic. These were all things I needed.
We also had a good talk about my health. And this may be hard to believe, but I came out to my doctor for the first time, something I should have done on the first visit. However, in my past, I had a really bad experience with this, so I had been hesitant to do so.  I knew though that it’s been a while since I’d been tested for STIs and I knew it was time. I needed to have this talk with my doctor. I did, and it went great. I go back next Thursday for the lab work and tests we decided on.
Overall, I’ve never been happier with a doctor’s office visit.

Recovered

I’ve recovered from my headache, but I don’t have much to say today. Instead, I give you a pretty picture.

Headache

I had a terrible headache last night, and it continues to plague me today.

Barry

The remnants of Hurricane Barry will be passing over Vermont the next few days. That means a low pressure system is moving through. I’ve been through enough tropical storms and hurricane to know what’s coming with the low pressure systems: sinus headaches. I had to leave work early yesterday because of one. The pressure around my eyes was causing pounding pain. I hate tropical weather, and thank goodness, it rarely comes to Vermont. However, come it has. We are even expecting a heat wave this weekend. Thank goodness I have an air conditioner now. Does anyone else get affected by weather like this?

Health Update

The provider I saw yesterday (I couldn’t get in to see my doctor, so I had to see on of his PAs) gave me a new and stronger antibiotic, both to take orally and to put drops in my ear. By nightfall, my ear was feeling much better. Hopefully that will continue. Earaches are one of the worst pains, especially when the swelling reaches down to your jaw. It can make eating miserable. But I am feeling better now.

Working Order

All my complaints yesterday are pretty much in working order again, except for my ear. At one point yesterday the pain became almost unbearable. I had to cancel my hair appointment and my date. I also had to call my doctor. I needed to know if they could do anything about the pain or give me some advice. He said to keep an ice pack on it and to keep taking pain medicine on a regular basis. Basically, don’t let the pain relief from Tylenol or Advil wear off. They also moved up my appointment from 3 pm to 10:45 am today. I’m assessing how I feel right now, and will decide soon if I will go to work or not this morning. If all is okay after the doctor’s appointment, I may go in then, but it’s according to the pain level.
