Moment of Zen: Procrasturbation

IMG_8074.JPG

Procrasturbation [pro·cras·tur·ba·tion]: A similar experience to masturbation, it feels good while you’re doing it but afterwards you realize that you just did yourself; Doing more pleasurable things in place of less pleasurable ones; Masturbating as a form of procrastination.

Ex: “I didn’t feel like working on my project so, instead, I just laid around procrasturbating.” “Your first tip is to avoid procrasturbation.” “Man, I love procasturbation!”

I suspect we have all been guilty of procrasturbation at one time or another. You know you have things to do, but you get that tingling sensation in your penis that says, “I want to play. Give me a quick solo, and then you can go back to what you’re doing.” The only problem is that once you are finished procrasturbating, then you are spent and of you are like me, then you want a nap. Happy procrasturbating!

Moment of Zen: Friends

IMG_9708.JPG

Honestly, I almost didn’t do a Moment of Zen this week. For me, moments of zen are things that make me happy, things that having a calming effect. There has not been much joy or calm this week. Since Monday morning when I couldn’t find HRH, then that afternoon, when it found her outside and had to rush her to the vet, I have done little but worry about her. Then Thursday, I lost her. It’s been a very difficult and emotionally draining week. A week that will take a long time to get over.

Then I thought about all the comments and emails that I received from readers. I thought of all the phone calls and texts from people who had found out that HRH passed. I thought about the way my students and fellow faculty reacted with sorrow and hugs. Yes, they may have often picked at me a bit about my cat, but they knew how much I cared for her. Many of them have lost a pet as well. It didn’t make me any less sad, but the love and concern others showed made it a little easier to deal with yesterday.

I wanted to make another mention of a bright spot of the week. I had written a review of Amy Lane’s books, and sent her an email asking a question. She responded so kindly and generously. I also heard from quite a number of her fans Thursday, which was a bright spot in an otherwise dark day. I have to admit though, Amy’s books might not be the best to read when you’re sad. Yes, there is usually the happy ending to them, but there is a lot of angst along the way.

Amy Lane knows how to pull at your heart strings. She pulled at a particularly recent heart string yesterday as I was reading. One of the characters in Making Promises, Shane Perkins who is an animal lover, said, “I’m sorry I was late. I had to put down one of my cats.” I burst into tears. I’d held myself together all day, but I couldn’t contain it anymore. I couldn’t read anymore either, especially since I was actually listening to the audiobook while driving. It’s not safe to have tears distort your vision while driving. Then I decided to listen to a little more before bed. If I was going to cry more, then I could do so alone. I didn’t though. Shane described his older regal cat and how sick she had become. Yes, it reminded me of HRH, but the tenderness of the story helped. Like I said Thursday, Amy has a way of writing real characters with whom you can identify.

Thank you all for the love and support, the emails and comments, you helped make a difficult situtation better.

Moment of Zen: The Pits

IMG_1704.JPG

I don’t know what it is, but sometimes you get a glimpse of a guys armpits and the hair there and it’s just so sexy. I will admit some guys have stinky armpits but the men who take care of themselves usually smell like a man, that musky hormone inducing man smell. I personally would love to nuzzles my shoulder up under than armpit and lay my head on his chest as he gives me that cute little smile.

Moment of Zen: Ryan Kelley

Ryan Kelley, aka Deputy Jordan Parrish on MTV’s Teen Wolf, is without a doubt my moment of zen this week. Not only is he, in my humble opinion, one of the hottest men on television right now, he’s also a model (see photo below) and if his Instagram is any indication, an animal lover (see photo above). Ryan Kelley is just so damn hot.

Moment of Zen: Cute Butts

IMG_0599.JPG

There are few things in this world that can be a true moment of zen like seeing a guy with a cute butt walking in front of you. It doesn’t matter what his face looks like at that point, but when you see that perfect roundness in front of you. As he walks, you see the left cheek then the right bouncing up and down with eat step. I can’t help but me mesmerized at times like that. If you have your phone or camera you might be tempted to take a snapshot, but we all know that pictures rarely do an ass the justice it deserves. I hope you are able to take in a few of these moments of zen in this week.

Moment of Zen: Cowboys

While in Dallas, there is only one thing that can be my moment of zen and that of course has to be sexy cowboys.

I do hope he doesn’t drive like most of these crazy people in the Dallas/Fort Worth area drive. Yesterday, we saw Southfork Ranch, and as a fan of the tv show Dallas, it was awesome. We also toured AT&T Stadium where the Dallas Cowboys play. We got to go in the Cowboys locker room, which was very cool, but I’d have loved for there to be some naked players in there. Alas, there wasn’t. We also went to Fort Worth and toured the area around the Stockyards and went into Billy Bob’s Texas, the world’s largest honky tonk. It was a fun but very exhausting day.

Moment of Zen: MMS

There are things in my life that never fail to make me smile (MMS). HRH greeting me in the morning is usually one of the first. The second is usually a text from a dear friend, and he knows who he is. He always makes me smile. Each week, sometimes a few times a week, I get an email from another dear friend. I so look forward to those emails. Oh, and I can’t forget, my first cup of coffee always makes me smile. It’s a nice way to wake up, sitting out on my front porch with a cup of coffee before the heat of the day makes it unbearable to be outside. What makes you smile on a daily basis?

Moments of Zen: Daiquiris and No Closets

20140719-011759-4679038.jpg

One of the great things about cruises and Louisiana is that there is lots of sugar and where lots of sugar cane is grown, there is usually lots of rum. And when it’s hot and humid, the best thing is a rum filled fruity and frozen daiquiri. We went through a drive-thru daiquiri place in Thibodaux called Norm’s, which makes delicious daiquiris. We laughed and giggled over many of the names: butter butt, bend over, pink panty pull down, etc. Nearly all of them are delicious. I had the Pixie Stick, which was a mix of grape and cherry and actually tasted like a pixie stick.

Anyway, it’s always great down here, because I never have to worry about being openly gay. Everyone I know here knows. There’s no reason to hide it, and I can totally be out and in the open and say and do whatever I want. I can have a fruity drink if I want without someone questioning my masculinity. I can flirt with men and when a hot guy comes on TV or walks by us, I can actually say, “Mmmm, damn” and my friend just says “Ooh, you made the Joe noise. I miss that.” I can be myself and that’s the greatest moment of zen I can imagine.

Moment of Zen: Four

20140712-004224-2544825.jpg

I started this blog four years ago today, and with the exception of a few instances, I have posted everyday to this blog. I had considered making a list of my favorite posts, but instead, I decided that I would ask my readers which post is their favorite. If you have a favorite post, what was it? I’d love to know.
