Moment of Zen

Though I think not
To think about it,
I do think about it
And shed tears
Thinking about it.

Ryōkan Taigu (良寛大愚)

Ryōkan Taigu (良寛大愚) (1758–1831) was a quiet and eccentric Sōtō Zen Buddhist monk who lived much of his life as a hermit. Ryōkan is remembered for his poetry and calligraphy, which present the essence of Zen life.

Moment of Zen: Football Is Here

Moment of Zen

I couldn’t think of anything to subtitle this post, but I do know that just looking at this golden beauty is my Moment of Zen for the day.  Enjoy!

Moment of Zen: Very Cute

Moment of Zen: Man of Steel

More so than most anything, I have a bit of a Superman fetish.  Maybe it is the dream of being swept off my feet by a strong, handsome man, but it probably has more to do with the fact that the actors who play Superman in TV and movies are consistently some of the hottest men in Hollywood.  This nameless cutie is not different, he is just freakin’ hot and that smile/smirk is my “Moment of Zen” today.

Moment of Zen: A Day With A Book

I just finished Robert Harris’s Conspirita, (which was a great book, but I wish I had read the first book in the trilogy Imperium first) and now I can’t decide what to read next.  Now that school has started back, I don’t have as much time to read, but on many nights, it’s reading a book that allows me to fall asleep at night.  All of those worries of the day disappear as I transport myself to another world in a book.  I have a few choices for what to read next: Donna Leon’s Drawing Conclusion, Greg Herren’s Who Dat Whodunnit or his book Sleeping Angels, or Steve Berry’s The Jefferson Key.  I will probably decide sometime today what to read, but since I know that many of you are readers also, do you have any recommendations?  What are you currently reading?

Moment of Zen: The Love of a Pet

My cat, and we will call her The Queen (she’s named after a famous queen), is my loyal companion.  Grant it, she believes that she owns the house, but she can be an extremely loving creature.  A prime example of this is when I come home from school in the afternoon.  I am usually exhausted and head upstairs to lay down for a few minutes.  It never fails that not only was she waiting for me either on the stairs or at the door when I come in, as soon as I lay down, she lays down beside me half on my chest to get her daily dose of cuddling.

I realize that there are people out there that don’t like cats.  I personally am not a dog person, but I know some people are, so here is part two of today’s Moment of Zen: The Love of  Pet.

Do you have a furry friend that is your most loyal companion?

Moment of Zen: Summer Afternoon

I struggled with what to subtitle this post, but then I realized that what drew me to this picture is that it is an ideal way to spend a summer afternoon.  Throw out a blanket the pier at the lake (in a park or at the beach, wherever you find solace) with a hat, sunglasses, and a book. Even though there is no one visible in this picture, you know that the guy is having a great relaxing afternoon, probably swimming in the lake and will go back to his book later.

Moment of Zen: In the Stacks

Moment of Zen: Beauty

This picture is almost too beautiful for words.  The color is blue and seemingly cold, but yet there is a certain warmth in the beauty of it.
